Apartment Cleaning Schedule

Ten minutes daily and one fifteen minute job each weekday keeps a small apartment clean without losing a Saturday to it. Sunday is off, and monthly jobs sit on top.

The daily ten minutes

This is the part that matters. A small apartment goes from fine to grim in about four days, and the daily list is what stops that clock. Do it at the same trigger every day — after dinner, or while the kettle boils.

The weekly rotation

One job a day, fifteen minutes, and no cleaning day. The point of splitting it is that fifteen minutes is short enough to do when you get home tired, and a three hour Saturday clean is not.

DayJobTime
MondayBathroom: toilet, sink, mirror, and a quick pass on the shower walls15 min
TuesdayFloors: vacuum or sweep everything, including under the bed15 min
WednesdayKitchen: fridge check, throw out what has turned, wipe shelves and the front of the cupboards15 min
ThursdayLaundry: one full load, dried and put away the same day10 min of your attention
FridayDust and surfaces: shelves, sills, the TV, the top of the fridge10 min
SaturdayMop the hard floors and change the bed20 min
SundayNothing. Tidy for ten minutes if you feel like it and stop.0 min

Move the days around to fit your week. Keep the shape: bathroom and floors early, laundry mid-week so it does not eat the weekend, and one day with nothing on it. Everything here runs on the basic kit in apartment cleaning supplies — you do not need a separate product per surface.

Monthly and seasonal

These are the jobs that never feel urgent and then take a whole afternoon because you left them. Put them on the first Saturday of the month, and accept that you will do most of them and skip some.

How oftenWhat it covers
MonthlyShower head and taps descaled, oven wiped out, microwave done properly, skirting boards, inside the bin, wash the bath mat and the tea towels, and check the smoke alarm.
QuarterlyBehind and under the fridge, the washing machine drawer and filter, window tracks, light fittings, the inside of the kitchen cupboards, and wash the shower curtain.
Twice a yearWindows inside and out where you can reach, curtains washed, mattress turned and vacuumed, wardrobe cleared out, radiator or vent covers cleaned, and a real sort through the under-sink cupboard.

The roommate version

Two people sharing one bathroom need a rota, not goodwill. The version that survives is a weekly swap of whole zones rather than a split of individual tasks, because nobody argues about whether the sink counts.

If you are moving in with someone soon, agree this in the first week rather than the first argument — it belongs on the same list as the cost split.

The reset when it has all gone wrong

Two bad weeks and the schedule is useless, because the apartment is past the point where fifteen minutes touches it. Do a reset instead, in this order, ninety minutes total.

  1. Bin bag in one hand, walk the whole place, throw out actual rubbish only.
  2. Second pass with a laundry basket: everything that is out of place goes in it, no decisions.
  3. All dishes done and the sink empty. Nothing else in the kitchen yet.
  4. Bathroom, fifteen minutes, top to bottom.
  5. Floors everywhere.
  6. Now empty the basket, one item at a time, into where it lives.

Then restart the daily ten minutes that night. The reset is not a failure state, it is a normal part of the year.
